The Westchester Chess School has the following schedule of classes.
Wednesdays: 6:00-7:00 Intermediate Chess
Thursdays: 4:00-5:00 Intermediate Chess
Thursdays: 5:30-6:30 Advanced Chess
Note: This class consists of a lesson followed by a rated game with a classmate. Membership in the United States Chess Federation is required.
Chess lessons other days and times are available by appointment.
Weekend lessons are not available right now.
Intermediate Chess is for students who know all the rules plus the names of some basic tactics: pin, fork, skewer, discovery.
Advanced Chess is for students who have either been in tournaments or who have learned fundamental principles well enough to be ready for tournaments.
Lessons for beginners are by appointment and don't exist as a group class right now.
In recent months, some beginners have taken a private lesson first in order to learn how the pieces move. Then, they join one of the intermediate classes.
